Iron Meteorite - Medium Octahedrite IIIAB.

PETROGRAFIA:

The meteorite is a medium octahedrite containing kamacite, taenite and few plessite fields. The bandwidth of kamacite is 0.90 ± 0.15mm. The kamacite phase shows Neumann bands with microhardness of HV 205 ± 15. The plessite fields include a degenerated comb and liquid plessite with slices of dark taenite. Also present in some grains are the Neumann bands and numerous micrometer-sized precipitates in kamacite. A small troilite-daubreelite nodule (0.5 × 1.0 mm) was observed with eutectic grains of iron sulfide and small sub-rectangular daubreelites.

GEOQUÍMICA:

Data obtained by INAA (JT Wasson, UCLA): Ni = 74.6, Co = 5.00 (both mg / g), Cr = 58, Cu = 204, Ga = 20.7, As = 4.86, W = 1.34, Re = 1481, Ir = 12.8, Pt = 18.1 Au = 0.654 (all μg / g). Data obtained by electron microprobe (A. Tosi, IGEO / UFRJ): kamacite (7.24% Ni, 0.48% Co), taenite and tetrataenite.

CLASSIFICAÇÃO:

Iron Meteorite - Medium Octahedrite IIIAB.

CLASSIFICADORES:

J. T. Wasson, M.E. Zucolotto and A. A. Tosi

HISTÓRIA:

Found by a gold miner, Valmir P. Scarabeli, while looking for gold with a metal detector. The finder sent samples to André Moutinho, who carried out preliminary tests that confirmed the sample's meteorological origin. The samples were sent to Drª. Maria Elizabeth Zucolotto for a complete analysis and classification.
